Joel Stein writes a tongue in cheek article in the July 30-August 6, 2012 issue of Time magazine (Pole Position) about asking Brad Walker, a star of the US pole vaulting team, to teach him how to pole vault. Stein writes "Brad doesn't eat gluten, dairy products or refined sugar. On his flight to Europe , he'll be taping electrodes from an electrical stimulation kit to his legs, poking himself with acupuncture needles and doing squats by the bathroom." In other words, to be in tip top shape Brad is doing exactly what I am recommending to heal. If it's good enough for an Olympic champion, it should be good enough for me. (The electrical stimulation kit is probably an EMS for muscle stimulation rather than a TENS I recommend for self acupressure points (see Blog entry). However, I intend to order an EMS to try to stimulate atrophied muscles which Dr. Wahls has done. Brad uses acupuncture needles, I just use the TENS pads. But overall, especially the diet, his program is strikingly similar. So take heart and TRY.
