I slipped and fell on my back hitting my head on the bathroom tile floor at around 2 a.m. severals weeks ago. Blood gushing everywhere, my husband in a panic called emergency, the local firemen (volunteers!) arrived to take over. The Ambulance took me to the nearest hospital (about 25 miles). Lots of blood but apparently nothing broken and no concussion. The Doctor sewed up my skull (2 wounds, 8 stitches) and sent me home about 5 a.m. It was a shock to my system, I should have taken Arnica 5 or 7. (I forgot) But I’ve gotten over it fairly well. And recognize I’ve learned my lesson.
After years of waking up at 3 am with pain running down the side of my left leg (which I know to be the Acupuncture Gall Bladder (detox) Meridien - probably a sign of inflammation. Watch what I eat!) I began taking Aprazalom, a relaxant like Xanax, to sleep. I don’t take any other medication, so allowed myself this little luxury which allowed me to sleep soundly all night. However, it also relaxed my leg muscles a bit too much. (One of its effects according to Wikipedia is “skeletal muscle relaxant” . Great.) I had read that “elderly” people were subject to falls because of the medication they took. This was clearly the case for me. So I’ve stopped taking it. The first night after the fall I slept because I was still in shock. The second night I didn’t sleep until 4 a.m. when I took a Stilnox sleeping pill (Ambien). The third night I did the same. The fourth night I slept very soundly for 2 hours which broke the insomnia cycle. I lay awake for several hours, maybe slept 2 hours more, but didn’t take the Stilnox. Three days of “withdrawal” isn’t bad. And my legs are stronger. Until my fall they felt like spaghetti noodles. My new rule is that I take nothing for sleep until 4 am. If I haven’t slept until then, I can take the Stilnox which generally works for 4 hours. However, even if I lie awake after only a 2 hour sleep, I take no medication. And recently I’ve been sleeping remarkably well.
And of course I went for an Osteopathic treatment 9 days after the fall. The Osteopath said my right leg was cold for lack of blood circulation, and it had weakened considerably, so she re-established my body structure. This is so important after a fall. And if my skeleton was somehow impeding blood circulation to the leg, it could well be impeding the fluid circulation to the head. After the treatment I felt so much better. Working my right leg, my husband can see that the leg has weakened in only 10 days, but we can re-establish function if we work on it, little time has elapsed and the fluid obstruction has been removed.
The work on my body structure which has freed blood/cerebral spinal fluid circulation has transformed my life since I read about Dr. Zamboni’s “liberation therapy” 6 years ago. I haven’t had to do much to free the fluid circulation, others might not be so fortunate. Once I had found ways to translate his CCSVI theory into my own healing protocol, and had entered the ThisisMs.com site community which has provided much insight and information, I’ve HEALED. Probably I can’t undo the damage done, but I’ve slowed dramatically the progression, and I feel good. In the past my head felt so plugged up I was always depressed. (Recently I’ve begun to take the anti-oxidant alpha-lipoic acid which has really given me a boost. A quick read on iron detoxification suggests this supplement. Who knows why it’s helped, but it has. My Naturopath prescribed it last year when I was getting over the shingles and of all the things she suggested then, this seems the most effective in improving my state of mind/health.)
Now, five days after writing the above, I’m recovering from the “ghost”of a cold/flu. I woke Friday morning with a sore throat. I took a dose of Boiron’s homeopathic remedy Oscillococcinum. Even though we drove some distance that day to visit the dentist, the sore throat had dissipated by evening when I took the second dose of Oscillococcinum. Saturday evening, my nose began to run. Two doses for the day. Sunday I took 2 more doses. I thought I was entirely recovered by Sunday evening, but Tuesday I was blowing my nose all day, and tired. Today Wednesday I really am entirely recovered. I will have lived through all the stages of a cold/flu in 3-5 days rather than 2 to 3 weeks which had been my habitual experience. Normally I would be pinned down with a terrible sore throat for a week, and after that pain subsided, it would be at least one week of sneezing, runny nose after which I would drag about for weeks on end. Oscillococcinum has put an end to that misery. Either a hint of a sore throat will have disappeared by the next morning, or, if the virus “catches”, it will be very diminished in impact. At my insistence my husband uses it successfully. (Even if he feels better the next morning, I insist he take a second dose. After taking a dose the evening, next morning he is in the habit of setting off as though nothing has happened, doesn’t repeat a dose and then he falls really ill by next day. He can drink coffee without anti-doting the remedy. I can’t.)
I now use Pulsatilla as my foundation remedy which helps strengthen me in general and prevents bladder infections. If I get a bladder infection, I can keep it under control with the Pulsatilla until I am certain I am not in danger of a viral infection since anti-biotics anti-dote the homeopathic Oscillococcinum. A few weeks ago I broke down and took an anti-biotic for a bladder infection. I am now entirely recovered from the infection and regaining my overall health and in consequence, happy. It has taken me so long to work all this out.
A heavy duty medication may render ineffective a homeopathic remedy like Oscillococcinum. Antibiotics cancel the remedy for me. Coffee and mint do as well. My husband uses medication for stomach reflux, and a thyroid medication neither of which cancel the remedy. He can drink coffee as well. (The instructions make clear one must take the remedy with no taste in the mouth. Read them.) But some of the disease modifying drugs prescribed for MS may make homeopathic treatment impossible. Too bad. Physical therapists agree with my impression that the MS medications undermine the morale in their patients. But the Neurologists have the power here in France, so nothing can be said. (Except by me, but who wants to listen to a rebellious female?)
I have been taking the nutritional supplements Standard Process brand since February1984 as prescribed by my San Francisco kinesiologist/nutritionist. (Today my supplements include Cataplex A-C, Collagen C, Myotrophin, Neurotrophin, Cataplex B12, Manganese B12, Biost, Cal-Ma Plus, Drenamin, and Chlorophyll Complex. I chew all of them which may be why my teeth/gums have been so healthy these last 30 years.) In addition I swallow Zinc Picolinate, Evening Primrose Oil pearls, Omega 3 pearls. I must be doing something right to prevent bone fractures at my age (68). Bone protection would include Cal-Guard brand Calcium Magnesium 3 times a day – Calcium 750 mg total plus Magnesium 375 mg daily with miscellaneous factors (Vit C 225 mg. Vit D3 1,200 iu, Vit K1 750 mcg, Manganese 1.5 mg, Boron 750 mcg, Silicon 30 mg) Standard Process Biost and Cal-Ma Plus. In addition, I take a Vitamin D3 dose of 100,000 iu once a month prescribed by my MD. I try to get 15 minutes of sunlight on my skin once a day to release nitric oxide.
I recently began taking 200 mg cap of the anti-oxidant Alpha-lipoic acid which seems to give me a boost.
Recent blood test Oct 2016
Calcium total. 98.1 mg/L or 2.45 mmol/L
Magnesium . 21.40 mg/L or 0,88 mmol/L
Vit D2+D3. >70 ng/L or >175 nmol/L
Vitamin B12 . 932 ng/L (688 pmol/L)
C reactive Protein 1,0 mg/L (test for inflammation. Very good. Reference range less than 5,0)
My Vitamin B12 level is excellent. I take Standard Process Cataplex B1(2 – 6 mcg per day and Manganese B12 – 5 mcg per day. As one can see, it is not the Vit B12 dose which counts but the natural food extract source of the supplement.
A recent Egyptian correspondant reported that after a recent angioplasty intervention by Dr. Sclafani in which a stent had been used for nutcracker syndrome (Wikipedia – “compression of the left renal vein”) as well as both jugular veins ballooned, he enjoyed the following improvements – reduced morning headaches, reduced tinnitus, and improved elimination. However, spasticity and fatigue showed little improvement.
He referred to my theory of poor blood circulation and reported that he had tried “niacin flush which vasodilates vessels for a short period” during which he feels less fatigued and has less spasticity which tends to support the vascular connection in MS.
Part of my response is as follows:
Your idea to use niacin flush is a good one (I haven't tried it. I'm doing OK with the TENS self acupressure treatment, massage and osteopathy.) We need to be creative in finding a solution to sluggish blood flow. I am always aware of how stress will cause the muscles to tense up which in turn hampers blood /fluid circulation leading to "nerve” symptoms. These I can control if I get the muscles to relax. This body awareness has helped me alot, but it is an never-ending process. Check out my blog "Positive Feedback Loop".
He also has inquired about iron chelate treatment to de-toxify iron deposits in the brain. I wrote:
“I don’t really have an opinion on iron chelation. I began to read the following discussion which may be of interest to you. (www.thisisms.com/forum/chronic...venous.../topic10335.html
It is written by interested MS people who provide links to scientific studies.) I note that Green Tea is considered a natural detoxifier ( drinking it will be less powerful than taking green tea tablets.) Someone mentions Alpha-lipoic acid as an iron detoxifier. I began to take one 200 mg tab a day and it really gives me a boost, though I don’t if it’s just the anti-oxidant effect or if it helps cleanse the iron as well. (I take many other nutritional supplements as well.)
In general I favour natural therapies over medical intervention. It took me a long time to overcome toxicity which had built up over a lifetime.”
I then quoted for him the following comments on MS fatigue by Scott1 and NEH found on the ThisisMS website. www.thisisms.com/

Hi,
This might help. The reason I say might is we are not going to discuss if you have any infection that can cause inflammation, any deficiencies in vitamins or amino acids or any medications such as statins that directly attack energy pools in the cell. We can discuss that if you wish. Any issues in those areas will impact on trying this.
The driving force to make energy is a substance called adenosine triphosphate(ATP). It is formed the cell, spent in the cell and renewed in the cell. If the process is working properly there is a rapid exchange of processes in the cell to create and renew ATP when demand increases. If it is not working properly the ATP is spent and breaks down into purines that stay unused in the cell. If the situation persists that degradation reaches a point where two things happen; the purines wash from the cell and the ATP still created is less than the amount demanded. This leaves you very fatigued and unable to feel energetic. An objective measure of how advanced this has become is a blood test of your uric acid level. That measures the final stage in the metabolism of purines.
What to do about it - 1) improve the restoration of ATP. This means improving a series of reactions called the electron transport chain. To do that buy a very good brand of coenzyeme Q10 that is in a gel capsule ideally with d-tocopherol (Vit. E). Take 150mg the first night and add 150mg every second night till you get to 600mg per night and stay at that level.
The second thing is to take 1000mg of aceytl-l-carnitine morning and night. This substance helps to acts as a shuttle to transport ATP and its spent version in and out of the mitochondria. That will speed up its availability.
Subject to my comments about infection and deficiencies this might help. The products are all available at a good supplements supplier. Go to the counter and ask what practitioner brands they have. They will be made with better laboratory practice.
Regards,

A vitamin B12 deficiency can cause fatigue. Have you had your B12 level checked? It should be 500-1000 pg/mL. It's also good to check red blood cell folate, homocysteine and methylmalonic acid for a complete B12 analysis. Please see the following topic for more information.

Me again. We are leaving on a long road trip to Andalucia – Southern Spain – on December 10. Enroute through San Sebastian I will stop to enjoy a Bio-Magnetic Pair treatment recommended by Hugo Macia. So that will be the subject of my next post.
